Text misleading in tax questions

Grand Junction voters have a difficult enough time as it is in next month’s municipal election, deciding on three separate sales tax increases — 0.25 percent to fund road projects and improvements, 0.50 percent for police and fire, and 0.39 percent for a new community center.

But confusing — and possibly erroneous — ballot language in the two City Council-endorsed measures could throw voters for a loop.

Measures 2A and 2B — which would add 2.5 cents and 5 cents in sales tax per $10 purchase for roads and emergency agencies, respectively — seem to read otherwise in the explainer section of each proposed measure.
