Tammy Slaton of 1000-Lb. Sisters has long shared her weight loss journey with the world, and through the TLC show, she’s garnered a large following online. In fact, Tammy frequently shares selfies and progress pictures via her Instagram, and she has no plans to dial it back — no matter what the haters say.
In an Instagram video shared on Tuesday, August 27, Tammy, 38, opened up about her weight loss journey, noting that she’s lost 500 pounds since the show’s premiere in 2020. She also defended her frequent sharing of selfies and videos.

“I take a lot of pictures, a lot of selfies,” Tammy said, “and I do, not because I think I look good — well, I do, a little bit — but mostly because I want to remember how big I was, what I look like. “And I reflect, ‘Dude, I was huge.’ I lost 500 pounds, like, I would not be able to sit in this chair.”
Tammy, who appears on 1000-Lb. Sisters with her sister, Amy Slaton, revealed that she had cut back on her food intake, but her focus on losing weight resulted in a form of identity crisis. Tammy — whose husband Caleb Willingham passed away in June 2023 — also admitted she turned to alcohol in place of binge-eating.
But given the progress she’s made, Tammy said she refuses to revert to old ways.
“It would be so easy to fall back into bad habits and gain all the weight back,” she said. “Then, what was this all for? Wasted time. Wasted money. Wasted effort. Waste.”
Back in 2022, Tammy underwent gastric bypass surgery — and she’s often reiterated that getting approved for the process wasn’t easy. And while she appears to be happy at this point in her journey, Tammy reminded followers that the fight is constant.
“They say it’s a lifestyle change, it really is,” said Tammy. “I had a lot of demons, inner demons, that had to fight, and I’m still fighting.”
