5-Year-Old Helps Aunt With Wardrobe Clear-Out: ‘Brutal but Effective’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A 5-year-old has gone viral on TikTok after taking on the role of fashion critic, helping her aunt with a wardrobe clear-out.

In the clip, Victoria—who is known as @vickaboox on TikTok—holds up each piece of clothing for her niece Matilda to deliver her brutally honest and unfiltered feedback. She has ‘keep’ and ‘sell’ piles that need to be populated throughout the process.

Kicking off her criticism with a long yellow dress, Matilda bluntly pointed out the furry texture and said it looked akin to a big bird.

Next up are some khaki cargo shorts, which the 5-year-old immediately dismissed with a practical critique: “That is not going to fit you; you’re just going to be upset.” Victoria agreed and laughed at her niece’s assessment: “That’s very true.”

Thankfully, not all of Matilda’s feedback was negative. A terracotta-colored dress earned her approval: “That is beautiful—definitely keep,” she said.

Similarly, a bright pink dress decorated with orange flowers gets the thumbs-up after Matilda asked her aunt to try it on. “Beautiful, keep,” the 5-year-old said.

Based in southeast England, Matilda found one of her aunt’s blue dresses not practical. When Victoria probed for more information, Matilda asked how she would feed her baby while she wore it.

The viral clip has received more than 3.8 million views since it was posted on August 29, along with thousands of comments from other social-media users who jokingly inquired about Matilda’s services.

“Does she do Zoom sessions?” one user asked, while another posted that the little girl could be the next Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue.

Others wrote that they would be taking Matilda’s advice on board the next time they need a wardrobe refresh. “She’s so brutal but effective,” another user posted.

Toward the end of the fashion show, Matilda called a black jumpsuit “bloody gorgeous,” but the following outfit didn’t make the cut.

A beige-colored dress is “giving safari,” according to the young fashionista, and a bright orange dress proved too intense for her: “It’s burning my eyes out,” Matilda said.

The final item is a geometric-patterned skit, which is a straightforward ‘no’ from Victoria’s niece.

“What were you thinking?” Matilda asked, before delivering her final verdict: “Definitely throw away.”
