The President is determined to secure our prescription drug supply chains, and has threatened tariffs up to 250% in order to bring manufacturing back to America.
President Trump has ordered his Health and Human Services to start stockpiling essential drugs in order to guard against possible drug shortages and price increases.
“President Trump ordered on Wednesday his health officials secure a six month supply of advanced ingredients for pharmaceuticals that the administration determined are essential for national security and health.
The government has already allocated millions dollars to developing domestic sources of key ingredients used for treatments for diabetes, anxiety and asthma.
ASPR would receive a six-month stock of APIs (advanced pharmaceutical ingredients), to be stored in a strategic reserve. Preference will be given to products manufactured domestically.”
The Trump White House explained why the stockpiling was necessary of prescription drugs.
According to a White House Fact Sheet , only 10% of the advanced pharmaceutical ingredients used in U.S. prescribed drugs are produced domestically.
The President is not the only one who should stockpile prescription drugs. Each and every American should do the same.
Stockpiling drugs for future use is not a new idea. Dr. Jim Thorp has advocated stockpiling since several years.
Since the turn of this century, I have strongly encouraged “stockpiling” essential medications such as antibiotics. It has been a great investment for many people, including friends, family members and patients. This recommendation will be even more important in 2025.
