According to reports, Erik Seibert resigned as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia on Friday.
He had the choice to resign or be terminated.
Fox News learned that Erik Seibert resigned as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia on Friday, after the White House had given him the choice to resign or be fired.
Multiple sources claim that Siebert was ousted because he refused to press charges locally against New York Attorney-General Letitia James. James is one of Trump’s most virulent political opponents.
Siebert had been working in the Eastern District of Virginia, Virginia since 2010. He had not yet received confirmation from the Senate but was on the right track.
The investigation into James is ongoing, and a housing and finance banker who is familiar with it told Fox News that the case for mortgage fraud against her is valid. She is also under scrutiny because, at least in one instance, she declared an investment property as her primary residence or secondary home, which would have given her better loan terms.
Donald Trump commented on the firing, saying: “Today, I withdrew Erik Siebert’s nomination as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia when I learned that he had received the UNUSUALLY STRONG SUPPORT of two absolutely terrible sleazebag Democrat senators from the Great State of Virginia.”
When I learned that the two sleazebag Democrat senators from Virginia had given him UNUSUALLY STRONG backing, I rescinded the nomination of Erik Siebert for U.S. attorney of the Eastern District of Virginia. He didn’t quit, I fired him! Next time, let him enter as a Democrat and not a Republican. I appreciate your attention on this issue. Make America Great Again! President DJT
