Democrat Senator John Fetterman will break from the Democratic party in order to reopen the government.
Fetterman stated, “I am not afraid to speak my truth, and I don’t mind paying a fine if that’s what it takes…It is wrong to shut down our government.”
Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) told “Hannity”, Wednesday, that he is willing to “pay a cost” to help open the government. This includes breaking with his own party. The shutdown has now entered its fourth week.
“I will always vote for my country and not my party, even if it means paying a price in my own base,” Fetterman stated.
Fetterman is outspoken about his criticism of the government shutdown. He has stated that he prioritizes funding the military and Capitol Police above party politics. He pointed out that he is one of two Democrats who voted to keep the federal government open.
“I don’t fear telling the truth, and I won’t be afraid if I have to pay a fine,” Fetterman said to Sean Hannity. “It is wrong to shut down our government.”
The shutdown is now the second longest in history.
The shutdown of the federal government that began on October 1 is now in its fourth week, making it the second longest in U.S. History.
Democrats and Republicans were still at odds on day 22 of the government shutdown. Jeff Merkley, a Democrat from Oregon, has spoken on the Senate floor more than 17 hour to protest Trump’s policies.
