On Wednesday, the Supreme Court will hear arguments about Donald Trump’s tariffs.
The arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday will focus on the legality Trump’s global tariffs. This is a major test for one of Trump’s boldest assertions about his executive power and a central issue to his economic agenda.
The Supreme Court heard the Justice Department appeal against a lower court ruling that Trump had overstepped his legal authority when he imposed most of his tariffs in 1977 under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. The tariffs were challenged in court by 12 states and various businesses.
Trump defended the use of tariffs in order to balance global trade, citing high duties that other countries have charged on U.S. imported goods for years. He claimed that his tariffs increased U.S. revenue and drove the stock market to record highs.
Donald Trump said that the case was “one of the most significant in the History of the Country.”
Trump said, “If we won, we would be the richest, most secure country in the world, by far.” If we lose, the country could be reduced almost to Third World status – Pray that this doesn’t happen!
The case on tariffs next week is one of the most significant in the history of the country. We would be totally defenseless if a President was not allowed to use tariffs. In the nine months I had the honor to be President, tariffs brought us great wealth and national security. During my brief tenure in office, the Stock Market reached All-Time Highs numerous times, with almost no inflation and a National Security second to none. We were able to achieve a successful deal with China and other countries because we had Tariffs. We would be helpless if a President could not quickly and nimbly utilize the power of Tariffs. This might even lead to the ruin of our nation. We are only being attacked by foreign countries who have exploited us for years, by those who dislike our country, and the Democrats because of our overwhelming numbers. I won’t be attending the Court on the Wednesday, as I don’t want to detract from the importance this Decision. In my opinion, it will be one of the most significant and consequential decisions ever made by the United States Supreme Court. We will be by far the richest and most secure country in the world if we win. If we lose, the country could be reduced to a Third World status. Please pray that this doesn’t occur!
