Donald Trump has expressed skepticism about the merger of Nexstar Media Group.
Trump wrote Truth Social: “I would be unhappy if this allowed the Radical Left Networks “enlarge”…NO EXPANSION of FAKE NEWS NETWORKS. Make them smaller!
I wouldn’t be pleased if this also allowed the Radical Left Networks “enlarge”. ABC & NBC are a disaster – A VIRTUAL ARM of the DEMOCRAT PARTY. These networks should be seen as a campaign against the radical left. NO EXPANSION FOR FAKE NEWS NETWORKS. Make them smaller! President DJT
President Donald Trump expressed his personal concern that the merger of Nexstar Media Group could give networks such as NBC and ABC a greater reach. These networks have been critical to him and his administration.

Nexstar and Tegna have been negotiating a merger since August 2025, when Nexstar announced that it had signed an agreement with Tegna to purchase the TV giant for $6.2 billion.
Variety reports that the merger could make Nexstar, which is already the biggest owner of local TV stations in the United States and has 265 stations spread across 44 states, the largest media company in the United States with a reach of around 80 percent.
Trump posted an article on Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy warning of the merger.
Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy warned on his network’s airwaves, Tuesday night, that the FCC under Brendan Carr is moving to give big TV networks a massive reach and to push through a mega merger of the anti Trump Nexstar group.
…
The “TV ownership cap”, which President Ronald Reagan established, is a limit that prevents big networks from controlling local news and owning all local stations in the United States.
Ruddy stated that Reagan understood that if left-wing networks such as ABC, NBC, and CBS – and groups like Nexstar today control every local station with their local news – Republicans have little chance of winning state and federal election,”
Ruddy told Newsmax’s Rob Finnerty if Carr’s plans were implemented 10 years ago, Donald Trump might not have won the presidency today or the GOP may no longer control Congress.
