The Washington Post published a piece titled, “Trump’s aides’ religious messages for Christmas raise objections.”

The article was mocked by many.

According to the article, “the messages are a sharp departure from the secular Santa Claus and reindeer Christmas messages that government agencies have used for years.” The posts were the latest in an administration-wide effort to promote Trump’s evangelical Christian base’s cultural views and language.

The Washington Post via Townhall.com reported:

Top officials from President Donald Trump’s government posted messages on their official accounts praising Christmas in explicit sectarian language, such as calling it a day for celebrating “our Savior Jesus Christ.”

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) posted three messages to social media on Thursday and Friday.

Messages that were more secular and centered around reindeer and Santa Claus, as has been the norm in government agencies’ Christmas messages for many years, diverged dramatically from those messages. These posts were the latest in an effort by the Trump administration to appeal to the evangelical Christian base’s cultural values and language.

…

In a press release, Rachel Laser, President and CEO of Americans United for Separation of Church and State said that these social media posts were “another example of the Christian Nationalist discourse the Trump administration disseminated from Day One in Office.” The promise of separation of church and state in our Constitution has allowed for religious diversity, including different denominations within Christianity, to flourish.

The White House issued a statement that was strong – they called out the Washington Post.

Abigail Jackson, spokesperson for the White House, said in a press release, “While Washington Post would rather we stick with ‘Happy Holidays’, we are saying Merry Christmas once again.” The Washington Post may not like it, but Christmas is a Christian celebration for millions of Christians who celebrate the birth of Christ.

Fox News reported

Abigail Jackson, spokesperson for the White House, defended the official’s responses in a statement made to Fox News Digital.

While the Washington Post prefers that we say ‘Happy Holidays’, we are saying Merry Christmas once again. Jackson stated that Christmas is a Christian celebration for millions of Christians who celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, regardless of whether Washington Post agrees or not.

…

The article about X was also responded to by other members of the Trump Administration.

You really don’t hate the media enough. The birth of Jesus Christ, the Son God, is the reason for Christmas. Our Republic was founded on Western Christian Values by men who were inspired by God. The West is by far the greatest civilization that mankind has ever known, since it upholds rights granted by God,” Trump’s counterterrorism adviser Sebastian Gorka wrote.

Merry Christmas!
