Al Pacino keeps in contact with his 1-year-old son via text messages.
The Oscar winner shared the surprising fact while speaking with the BBC about his new autobiography, Sonny Boy. Pacino, 84, revealed that he doesn’t live with his youngest son, Roman, whom he shares with ex Noor Alfallah, 30.
Though the couple are co-parenting, it seems Pacino’s regular communications with the baby are digital. “He does text me from time to time,” The Godfather star said. “Everything he does is interesting to me. So, we talk. I play the harmonica with him on the other video thing, and we have made this kind of contact. So, it’s fun.”

Pacino and Alfallah, who were first romantically linked in April 2022, confirmed their pregnancy news in May 2023. However, their reps have since released a statement that they are “very good friends” and are “co-parents” to their son, but are not romantically involved. The statement came after Alfallah was seen leaving the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles with Bill Maher.
Alfallah has full custody of Roman, but three months after his birth, the pair had a custody agreement drawn up that gives the Scarface star visitation rights as well as the right to be included in big decisions in the child’s life, like schooling, religion, and medical treatment.
One of the reasons Pacino finally decided to write Sonny Boy — inspired by the nickname his mother gave him — was to ensure that his baby boy would be able to learn about his father’s life. “I want to be around for this child,” Pacino told the publication. “And I hope I am.” The famed actor wants to “stay healthy” for his youngest child, also sharing the hope that the little boy “knows who his dad is.”
His near-death experience with COVID-19 probably also influenced the actor’s desire to secure his legacy for his son. He revealed to People in an October 5 interview that for a time, he “didn’t have a pulse,” before thankfully being revived by paramedics. He praised his assistant Michael Quinn for noticing something was wrong, and quickly calling for help.
The House of Gucci star, who has never been married, also has three adult children; daughter Julie, 34, with ex-girlfriend Jan Tarrant, and twins Anton and Olivia, 23, with ex-girlfriend Beverly D’Angelo.
Pacino’s autobiography Sonny Boy releases on October 15 wherever books are sold.
