The President Biden will deliver his farewell speech to the nation on Wednesday at 8 pm, just five days before he hands over the presidency to both his predecessor, Barack Obama, and to Donald Trump, the President-elect.
This will be Mr. Biden’s final and fifth formal address from the Oval Office. In his last Oval Office primetime address six months ago, Mr. Biden explained his decision to not run for re-election.
The speech on Wednesday will mark the end of Mr. Biden’s tenure as president and his years in office. Since 1973, Mr. Biden held elected office each year except for the four years immediately following his vice-presidency.
In a letter of farewell released by the White House on Wednesday morning, Mr. Biden stated that “it has been a privilege to serve this country for more than 50 years.” “
He added, “Nowhere on earth could a child with a stammer from humble beginnings in Scranton in Pennsylvania and Claymont in Delaware one day sit at the Resolute Desk of the Oval Office in the role of President of the United States.” “I have given both my heart and soul to my nation.” “I have received a thousand times more in love and support from the American people.”
The White House did not release excerpts from the President’s speech.
In recent days, Mr. Biden was on a farewell trip. He gave his final speech on foreign policy to the State Department and spoke about his conservation legacy at the State Department Tuesday. He is also expected to deliver a speech at the Pentagon’s commander-in chief farewell on Thursday.
In his speech on foreign policy, President Obama tried to convince the audience that America’s global position and its relationship with allies are stronger today than when he first took office. Now, the man who he accused of damaging important international relationships and threatening democratic values is about to assume office again.
Biden is the only presidential candidate who has defeated Trump. However, with Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamalah Harris, Biden supporters and other Democrats are worried that Trump will undo what Mr. Biden accomplished.
“I ran because I thought the soul of America is at stake,” Mr. Biden wrote in his letter. In the letter, Mr. Biden stated that “the very essence of who we were was at stake.” “And that’s still true.”
Gallup reports that Mr. Biden is leaving office with a 39% rating of approval.
The global stage
Biden said that he would leave the Trump administration a “very powerful hand” to play in foreign policy.
Mr. Biden claimed that he has strengthened relations with allies, and that key adversaries such as Iran and Russia are now weaker.
In his Monday foreign policy speech, the president stated that “we’re leaving behind an America with stronger alliances and more friends, and whose enemies are weaker and under greater pressure.” “We will leave behind an America which is once again leading the world, uniting nations, setting the agenda and bringing others to our visions and plans.”
The president stood by his decision of withdrawing the U.S. troops from Afghanistan. This brought to an end America’s longest conflict, but it cost 13 servicemen and dozens Afghan civilians their lives in a terrorist atrocity that took place in the Hamid Karzai Airport of Kabul.
Biden said that the next administration would inherit its own challenges. These include a growing relationship between Russia, North Korea and Ukraine, Russia’s continuing war against Ukraine, tensions on the South China Sea, and the ongoing conflict within the Middle East.
The economy
The Biden Administration has claimed that the country has been better off since he became president, pointing out his efforts to reduce drug prices, as well as the enactment by both parties of a bipartisan infrastructure bill and low unemployment rates.
When Mr. Biden assumed office, the U.S. unemployment was at 6.4%. The economy was still struggling from the global pandemic of COVID. In December, the president leaves office in a position where unemployment is 4.1%.
In the letter, Mr. Biden claimed that when he took office in 2009, the economy was in “the worst crisis since the Great Depression.” He then boasted that four years on “we are the world’s strongest economy and we have created 16,6 million new jobs.”
Inflation and rising prices have also been a major issue for voters, who elected Republicans to Congress and the White House.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, inflation has increased by more than 20 percent since Mr. Biden assumed office. Some expenses, such as groceries and auto insurance premiums, have increased at a higher rate.
Since Mr. Biden’s election, the monthly mortgage payment for a 30-year loan on a brand new home has almost doubled.
Key Legislation
He pushed for and Congress passed the legislation in 2021, which allowed for the rebuilding and upgrading of bridges and public transportation, among other priorities.
With Republican support, the 2022 Congress passed the most important legislation on gun control in decades. It addressed mental health and gun violence by expanding firearm background checks.
The Inflation Reduction Act was criticized as doing little to reduce inflation but it did allow the administration to begin negotiations on lowering drug costs. The law contained some of the most important measures to combat climate change.
Pardoning his Son
On Thanksgiving weekend, the President’s decision to pardon his son Hunter, who committed felony gun crimes, and for tax evasion, will undoubtedly be a part of his legacy.
