Taken with the No. 12 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, quarterback Bo Nix may have found a home with the Denver Broncos. Nix came into the NFL with a lot of questions surrounding his overall game but after the preseason, it was clear who would lead Denver out onto the field in Week 1.
Nix was named the starter for the Broncos after his strong preseason performance, giving the rookie a chance to show what he can do. And it seems that he has impressed the most important person in the organization.
Broncos owner Greg Penner spoke about Nix and gave his impression on him entering the new season.
“I’ve been really impressed with his poise and maturity,” Owner and CEO Greg Penner said of Nix, per the team’s official website. “That’s something about starting that many games in college that obviously develops that, and I think he’s got some incredible traits. It was great to see how he played in the first two preseason games. I had a chance to call him after Sean announced that he’d be the starting quarterback. I had a great conversation with him then. All rookies are going to go through some ups and downs in their first season, and I told him, ‘We’re going support you.’
“I’m excited to see what he can do on the field, [as well as] the rest of this roster.”
Nix comes into the NFL with plenty of experience during his college days. He started at Auburn University before transferring to the University of Oregon.
His time with the Ducks seemed to take him to new heights as he was among the Heisman Trophy candidates this past season, ultimately finishing in third place in the voting. He threw for 4,508 yards with 45 touchdowns and just three interceptions over 14 games.

Combined he started 61 games for the two schools, giving him plenty of reps before taking the field in the NFL. He has shown flashes of greatness in the past but never was able to consistently put it all together.
However, playing in a quarterback-friendly system like head coach Sean Payton’s, Nix could be in for success. He is an accurate quarterback who relies on his in-pocket instincts to navigate the offensive attack.
If he can help turn the Broncos into contenders, it will be a great story. Denver isn’t expected to compete for the postseason. Even if they fall short, Nix can make a lasting impression on the league in his rookie season.
