A nudist resort less than 30 minutes drive from the city slickers of Silicon Valley is up for sale.
Lupin Lodge, at Aldercroft Heights in California, has been listed for sale at $32.8 million.
The property is said to be one of the oldest nudist retreats west of Mississippi but with its sale, there is potential for it to finally become clothing friendly.
The promotional material for the property, which is being sold by Christie’s International Real Estate, emphasizes that the property “offers endless possibilities for development, from a retreat center to a wellness facility or an eco-adventure resort.”
Located just five miles from downtown Los Gatos, the 112-acre property has 37 bedrooms and 22 bathrooms but that is far from all.

Touting the Lodge’s extensive facilities, the property listing reads: “Lupin Lodge has an extensive use permit, ideal location, gorgeous park-like grounds and views, restaurant/clubhouse with an extensive deck overlooking the mountains, pool, tennis/pickle ball court, volleyball court, mile of hiking trails, yurts, cabins, State regulated water plant fed by Hendry’s creek and mostly undisturbed land with privacy and serenity.”
The extensive use permit would allow the new owners to add on an 18-room lodge, conference center, another pool and two spas.
Newsweek has contacted the selling agent, Joe Pollifrone, for comment.
The history of the Lodge is also one of its great appeals. Originally a winery, it was closed during prohibition before being reopened as a nudist resort in 1935. It was founded by early proponents of the nudist movement who wanted a quiet and relaxing haven.
For the last 47 years, the resort has been run by the Stout family. Its current owner, Lori Stout, has been at the helm since 2015.
Currently, guests at Lupin can enjoy a whole range of activities in their birthday suits, including nude volleyball and nude hiking around the property’s woodland. The website says “nudity is generally encouraged everywhere on the grounds.”
However, it is not just nudity that has caused a stir at Lupin Lodge. In 2015, Lori Stout faced criminal charges after being accused of stealing water from a nearby creek by local authorities. Stout eventually agreed to a no-contest plea and paid a fine.
In the same year, there was also a class action brought against the Stouts which claimed wage theft.
It is currently unknown exactly why the Stouts are selling Lupin Lodge, but Newsweek has emailed them for comment.
Rather conveniently for any prospective buyers, the perfect opportunity to have a snoop at Lupin Lodge is just around the corner as the resort is celebrating its 90th birthday on August 2024 with a weekend-long celebration that is open to the public.
