Cat Owner Prepares for Hurricane, but Pet Confused at Where ‘Outside Went’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A cat from Florida named Tiggy was left confused when her mom barricaded their windows in preparation for Hurricane Milton, and the pet could not understand why she couldn’t see the outside anymore.

A viral clip shared on TikTok by her owner on Wednesday, under the username @senpaiisoupp, shows Tiggy looking confused as she sits on the couch, facing the window, tilting her head, trying to understand why all she can is wood. “She doesn’t understand where the outside went,” reads a caption shared with the heartwarming video. While she may not have understood what the wood was for, and low-key even hated it, the window protection was probably what kept her safe.

Hurricane Milton hit Florida on Wednesday night as a category 3 hurricane after weakening in the Gulf of Mexico before making landfall in Sarasota. While it did leave a trail of destruction behind, the damage wasn’t as catastrophic as expected, had it hit as a category 5.

Before the hurricane hit, the Florida Division of Emergency Management warned residents against leaving their pets at home when evacuating. Officials said that those who couldn’t take them along, should leave them in a safe place with family, friends, at a shelter, or at a boarding facility.

The first thing you should do keep your pets safe at any time is to microchip them and make sure they are wearing a collar with your details, so they can easily be returned to you should they get lost.

When it is an emergency, you should “make a plan” for them, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), creating an emergency kit that includes supplies, records, and contact information, as well as any medications your pet may need.

Keeping your pet up to date on all their vaccinations and heartworm, flea, and tick medicine will also protect them against diseases, which easily spread during the aftermath of a hurricane, including rabies and leptospirosis.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 2.1 million views and more than 611,000 likes on the platform.

One user, KiKi, commented: “It was there this morning……..I swear … wasn’t it? … WASNT IT!??”

Elyse_rn posted: “My cat is so upset that we removed all the patio furniture and all the lizards left.”

Inlet Lady added: “Cat: This place is becoming more like a Prison every day!”

Newsweek reached out to @senpaiisoupp for comment via TikTok. We could not verify the details of the case.
