Cat Sprawled Out on Beach Embodies ‘Peak Definition of Enjoyment’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A video of a woman’s beach vacation in Greece being gate-crashed by a cat has delighted users on TikTok.

The clip was shared by TikTok user Anita (@anitaszentgyorgyi) and has garnered over 713,000 views since it was posted on September 3.

A message overlaid on the video reads: “POV [point of view]: You just wanted to enjoy the day in a Greece island…” According to a later comment from the poster, the moment was captured on Kathisma beach on the island of Lefkada on the west coast of Greece.

The footage begins with a serene coastal scene, with a view of a turquoise-green sea under blue skies and people on the beach. The camera then pans to the side to show a cat sprawled out next to a man on a beach towel, with its eyes closed, belly exposed, and front paws stretched above its head. A caption shared with the post simply reads: “A normal beach day in Greece.”

The sleepy cat‘s apparent love for the warm beach setting comes as no surprise because our feline companions have a high tolerance for heat and love to keep warm.

“A cat’s body hums along at a temperature of 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit—a little higher than the normal human body temperature and about the same as dogs,” veterinarian Dr. Marty Becker said in a January 2014 article for Vetstreet, a pet health website.

“A normal range is 100 to 102.5 [degrees Fahrenheit], so call your veterinarian if your cat’s temperature is higher or lower than that,” Becker added.

A feline’s warm body temperature plays a key role in preserving energy between hunting or play sessions.

Warmth is one of the reasons why our cats love to sleep with their owners in bed. Vicki Jo Harrison, president of The International Cat Association (TICA), told Newsweek in February 2022 thata warm human can be the “perfect place” for sleeping at night, especially near the head and feet, from where most body heat escapes.

‘So Sweet’

TikTok users swooned over the cat’s relaxed stance in the viral clip.

User @annareadsthis1 posted: “that’s the peak definition of enjoyment.”

Anastasia Moisidou wrote, “the cutest thing ever,” and @xlauralouisex90x commented: “this looks like the best day ever to me xx.”

Gema S said, “Absolute heaven for me,” and SabinaMehic wrote that “this is my dream.”

Nicola Gen X wrote, “That little cat looks so sweet and lovable,” and nutișor added: “With his belly in the sun…”

Newsweek has contacted the original poster for comment via TikTok. This video has not been independently verified.
