A mischievous cat attempting to “help” with laundry has left internet viewers in stitches, racking up over 5 million views on TikTok.
The black-and-white feline, Mash, @spudandmash, decided to try his paws at removing freshly washed socks from the clothes horse—much to the dismay of his owner. The hilarious footage has since gone viral, amassing more than 7.4 million views and over 191,000 likes on Instagram.
“I hate you so much,” his exasperated owner mutters as she watches the chaos unfold, with her cat systematically tearing down the socks. However, she quickly reassured viewers with a caption: “I actually love him, don’t worry.”
In true cat fashion, the feline troublemaker leaves a trail of socks scattered across the floor—ones that, it seems, aren’t quite dry yet.
The experts at Catster say that cats are drawn to laundry for a variety of reasons. Laundry baskets offer a warm and cozy environment, ideal for a nap or simply lounging. They provide security and comfort, which is why some cats find the idea of snuggling up amid freshly cleaned clothes irresistible.
However, it is not just warmth that intrigues felines when it comes to laundry. The scent of their human on clothing or bedding may also play a role in their fascination. The mix of warmth, texture, and familiarity makes laundry an appealing destination for cats seeking a comfortable spot to relax.
But why do cats enjoy knocking things over, pulling down socks, or generally wreaking havoc on household chores?
The PetMD experts say this behavior is often driven by a combination of curiosity, boredom, and instinct. Cats love to engage with their environment, especially with objects that dangle or move.
To deter your feline friend from “helping” with the laundry, offering them interactive toys or designated scratching posts can provide alternative outlets for their energy. You can also redirect their attention by rewarding them when they interact with appropriate objects rather than your freshly washed clothes.

Users couldn’t resist writing about their own hysterical takes on the cat’s newfound love for laundry duties.
“He does more around the house than an average husband,” added one viewer.
Another user posted: “He just needs to learn how to fold them now.”
“At least he helps around the house. Most cats don’t do anything,” a fellow cat lover commented, capturing the collective amusement.
