Cat’s Unusual Way of Sitting Leaves Internet in Hysterics—’A Tuxedo Thing’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A cat has delighted internet users with his peculiar way of perching on the stairs.

A hilarious clip was shared on the cat’s dedicated TikTok account (@a_cat_named_kyle) showing the way he likes to sit his body on one step, while perching his front paws on the next step up. The black and white tuxedo cat certainly looks very civilized.

Kyle’s antics continue to bewilder his owner however, as she has sought advice from others about why her cat sits like that, and what it could mean. But even people who have been around cats for a long time and are used to their goofiness are perplexed, as the caption layered over the video jokes that even a “veteran cat owner” said they’ve “never seen another cat do that” before.

Since the clip was shared on TikTok, it has gone viral with more than 611,000 views and over 71,900 likes at the time of writing.

Newsweek has contacted @a_cat_named_kyle via TikTok for comment.

The staircase might not look like the comfiest location, but Kyle appears to love sitting there and observing his surroundings. Indeed, the website PetMD explains that cats often like to perch high up as it offers them a good vantage point and helps them feel safe from potential predators or dangers. In the home, that could include other pets, children, or even visitors, according to PetMD.

Additionally, sitting and sleeping somewhere high up gives the cat a panoramic view to observe their prey, which could be as simple as their own toys.

Perching on the staircase might come from an ancestral desire to see all around him from high up, but Kyle’s way of sitting upright suggests a very different reason. When cats sit upright, almost like a human, PetMD says it’s a vote of confidence in their surroundings and a suggestion that they feel safe. If they’re happy to expose their belly and their vital organs, they must feel safe and secure.

How Did TikTok React?

The viral video of Kyle’s unusual sitting position has delighted social media users, leading to more than 230 comments on the TikTok post so far.

One reads: “Cats are weird little creatures and you can have multiple throughout your whole life and still end up getting one that manages to surprise you somehow.”

Another TikToker wrote: “He’s pondering upon his day, don’t mind him.”

“My girl does the same, it’s a tuxedo thing,” said a different TikTok user.

One person joked: “He is waiting for his morning tea.”
