The Kansas City Chiefs are on a quest to become the first team to secure three consecutive Super Bowl victories ever. Though it will be difficult to get through the talented teams in the AFC, the Chiefs are still favored to return to the championship game.

The reason behind the Chiefs remaining a favorite is because of the pure talent they possess on both sides of the ball. All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones had been the subject of free agency rumors during the offseason, but ultimately signed a five-year, $158 million deal to remain in Kansas City.
Naturally, Jones has already returned to his quarterback-torturing ways. The Chiefs most recently defeated the Cincinnati Bengals to remain undefeated in Week 2. Despite the Chiefs being in celebratory mode for another win, Jones has taken umbrage with a recent stat correction that impacted his sack count.

Per NFL insider Tom Pelissero, “NFL stat correction with possible fantasy impact in IDP leagues: #Chiefs edge George Karlaftis was awarded a full sack in last week’s win over Cincinnati, removing a half-sack from DT Chris Jones.”
Jones was upset about his losing half a sack, taking to Twitter/X to announce his frustration.
His simple response to the stat correction of “This some bs,” says it all.
Though Jones engaged in a funny back-and-forth about Karlaftis treating him to dinner for the stat correction, Jones has now called on the league to make things right.
Per Chiefs beat reporter Pete Sweeney, a video showcased Jones pleading with the NFL to take another look at the play.
“Listen. I’m trying my best not to get fined. But in my nine years of playing, three days later, my hand was clearly on him [Burrow]. I don’t know who viewed it. I can’t tell you how many eyes viewed this play. Play 29, but who’s counting?”

Jones not only explains his reasoning for the league to look again at the play, but he also indicates the play number that led to Burrow being sacked. Jones believes that he and Karlaftis got to the quarterback at the same time, which should count as half a sack for both players.
Jones sprinkled jokes throughout his comments Thursday, but is dead-set on his getting the stat correction readjusted. He even brings up another instance in 2023 where he sacked Russell Wilson. Karlaftis had a hand on Wilson, leading to his being awarded half of a sack.
Jones points out that if the league is truly that “critical” about what constitutes a sack, he would have been at 11 sacks in 2023 instead of 10.5. Jones refers to the event as “traumatizing.”

Jones has a point and it will be interesting to see if the NFL steps in to award the half sack to the Chiefs’ DT. Jones isn’t merely pushing for the correction to the statistical record; players can often have performance bonuses in their contracts. Jones might be pushing the NFL to take a look based on what he might earn in 2024 for achieving a certain sack threshold.
