After a long offseason of discussions, the Dallas Cowboys and star quarterback Dak Prescott have agreed on a massive contract extension. The deal is reportedly for four years, worth $240 million, $231 million of which is guaranteed.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported the news of the agreement on social media.
Prescott will now go into the new season with a deal in place and won’t be heading to free agency next offseason. There was a lot of speculation that Prescott was entering his final season as a member of the Cowboys, the only organization he’s called home.
Both Prescott and owner Jerry Jones exchanged shots at one another through the media, sparking some controversy. But in the end, the two sides always wanted to get a deal done to remain connected.
Jones recently spoke with ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith and discussed Prescott. He said he believed Prescott was the type of player who would get better with age, potentially hinting that a new deal was coming.
“What he is as a person and as a quarterback will age well,” Jones said. “I think it will age well as he moves into the next five-or-ten years of his life. I think he’s the kind of quarterback that gets better and better.”

Prescott led the Cowboys to a 12-5 record last season but the team fell short in the playoffs once again. Dallas was upset by the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round, ending another season with heartbreak.
The veteran signal-caller led the league with 36 passing touchdowns a year ago and there for 4,516 yards. He is a three-time Pro Bowler and is third on the Cowboys passing list behind only Troy Aikman and Tony Romo.
Prescott will look to get the Cowboys back to the postseason but this time, deliver when it matters most. He has been to the playoffs five times in his career but hasn’t been able to go beyond the divisional round just yet.
With this new deal, Prescott can play more freely and make an impact on the field. Dallas has now locked up both Prescott and star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb with new contract extensions this offseason, shoring up their star duo for the foreseeable future.
Being the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys is no easy task. Prescott has embraced it fully. With the backing of the organization, Prescott could possibly be in line for his best season yet.
