Washington D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser acknowledged that Donald Trump’s efforts to stop crime are working in Washington, D.C.
She stated, “We have seen a drastic reduction in gun crimes, homicides and carjackings.”
Bowser presented a chart at the briefing that credited the influx with bolstering MPD efforts. He also said, “We are grateful for the surge of officers who enhance what MPD is able to accomplish in this city.”
She gave an example of a dramatic drop in crime, stating, “For carjackings the difference between last year and this period represents a 87% decrease in carjackings. This surge was important for us because of that.”
Bowser provided additional examples of Trump’s new influx driving results.
She said, “This is our opinion after just a few weeks of experience.” “We think that having more federal law enforcers on the streets — and more stops which led to illegal weapons has helped. We believe that more accountability, or perceived accountability, in the system is what is driving illegal behavior down. We have seen a dramatic reduction in gun crimes, homicides and carjackings.
Bowser stated that she spoke with Trump on Wednesday.
Bowser confirmed that she spoke with Trump on Wednesday, but declined to give details about their conversation. She said the meeting had been arranged as a “courtesy.”
She said, “I was reminded that our first meeting after his election, where we discussed the shared priorities for district,” she said. “I was reminded there that the president’s interests in cities predate his time in office and his knowledge of D.C. has significantly increased since the first time he sat in the White House.”
Bowser replied that she did not discuss this with Trump.
Trump is right again!
