A dog’s brutally honest adoption description has left social media users in stitches.
On Reddit, /u/scarrlet shared a screenshot of an unusually candid advertisement for Merry, a 7-year-old shelter dog described as a “fat little dog whose only joy is food.” The post has racked up 2,000 upvotes on the popular “What’s Wrong With Your Dog” subreddit.
“The rescue’s website lists her ‘special needs’ as ‘has been adopted out numerous times and returned for biting,'” the user added, highlighting Merry’s mischievous reputation.
The post also featured a photo of Merry lying on her side with her tongue out, clearly unbothered by her reputation or the world around her. Her plump figure added visual confirmation to the rescue’s claim about her love for food.
According to Rescue Ranch, a no-kill dog rescue in Yreka, California, Merry is a Chihuahua-dachshund mix who gets along well with other dogs. However, the same can’t be said for children and cats, making her a very particular match for prospective adopters.
The full adoption description said: “Merry is a fat little dog whose only joy is food. The Dr. says she’s obese but we here at Rescue Ranch know she’s actually bursting at the seams with hatred. She is sure to hate you, your neighbors, your mother-in-law, your taste in music, and your daily outfit.
“Surprisingly, she tolerates other dogs and some cats, but will not tolerate fun, late dinners, laughter, or happiness of any kind. Who knew so much loathing could come in such a small and cute package?
“If you’re looking for a judgmental friend to sit on your porch and bring trauma to your community, look no further because Merry is the dog for you! Just be sure to bring lots of treats, it’s the only thing to crack the code to Merry’s cold heart.”
Despite the comical description, it appears Merry hasn’t found her forever home yet, as her post is still listed on the shelter’s website.

There are several key factors to consider to ensure a happy and successful adoption, according to the Grey Muzzle Organization, which works to improve the lives of at-risk senior dogs.
First, assess your lifestyle. Dogs with special needs, whether behavioral or medical, often demand more time and attention.
Merry, for example, has a history of being returned for biting, meaning her new owner would need to be prepared to work on behavior training, likely with the help of a professional. Be sure your daily routine allows you enough flexibility to give the dog the time, structure and care it requires.

Redditors were charmed by Merry’s one-of-a-kind personality, with one writing, “I love her.”
“I can fix her,” another added, while one user wrote: “Oh my god! My dog also hates everyone! The casual disdain is bearable because she’s so cute, Merry will be fine.”
Another dog owner said: “Yup, I have an evil Chihuahua that hates anything that isn’t me. So literally everything. He’s always ready to write tickets for having too much fun since he’s the fun police. But he’s cute.”
