The Miami Dolphins are going through one of the worst-case scenarios that can happen to teams regarding their starting quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa went down with a concussion in Week 2 and is currently on IR as a result of the injury.

The team then pivoted to backup quarterback Skylar Thompson to lead the team in the third and fourth quarters in Week 2. He also became the starter in Week 3, but a shaky offensive line caused Thompson to also be hurt.
Thompson took a big shot from a Bills defender resulting in what many believed to be broken ribs. That fact has not been confirmed yet. Regardless of the injury, it appears the Dolphins are facing a reality where they will be down to their third-string quarterback to lead the team on Monday Night Football.

Longtime Dolphins beat writer Omar Kelly attended practice on Thursday and detailed a bit about the status of Thompson.
“Dolphins QB Skylar Thompson was at practice, but looked labored and was seemingly in pain. He needed help putting on his jersey. Very slim odds he’s playing on Monday unless ribs miraculously heal.”

Kelly stated that Thompson is unlikely to play. The fact that he had to be helped to get his jersey on indicates that he more than likely suffered a significant injury to his ribs or chest.
This would mean the Dolphins are going to move forward with either Tyler “Snoop” Huntley or Tim Boyle as the signal caller for their primetime matchup with the Tennessee Titans. Another reporter from a notable Dolphins beat writer indicates that it could be Huntley who will attempt to lead to the team to a much-needed victory.
The collective view in our Dolphins media room here in Miami Gardens is that Tyler Huntley is the favorite to start Monday, unless the coaches don’t like what they see in terms of grasp of offense, etc., over next three days.

According to Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, “The collective view in our Dolphins media room here in Miami Gardens is that Tyler Huntley is the favorite to start Monday, unless the coaches don’t like what they see in terms of grasp of offense, etc., over next three days.”
Huntley was signed off the Baltimore Ravens practice squad after Tagovailoa had been placed on IR. The Dolphins could choose to add another option via free agency or a trade, but Huntley is likely to be given the chance to start.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel stated that it is”premature” to name the starting quarterback for Monday, though he knows who might be starting.
The Dolphins are currently 1-2, and the once dominant offense that scared NFL defenses in 2023 is far removed in 2024. The team needs a spark, and if Huntley starts — the hope is he can put together a far more impressive offense than what Thompson and Boyle did with limited action.
