On Tuesday, the Dolphins announced the signing of quarterback Tyler “Snoop” Huntley off the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. Huntley is expected to be the backup to Skylar Thompson, who head coach Mike McDaniel said would be the starter moving forward.

Tagovailoa will miss at least the next four games for the Dolphins, but the team isn’t putting a timeline on his return. Instead, Tagovailoa will take time to consult doctors and neurologists to make the best decision regarding his future in the NFL.
While Tagovailoa’s health is of the utmost important to the Dolphins, the team also needs to quickly shift its focus to their Week 3 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks are 2-0 following wins against the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots.
Thompson is expected to be the starter, but Huntley will quickly learn the offense and serve as a viable backup. Huntley has been a solid backup for Lamar Jackson through the first four years of his career. In 2022, Huntley made four starts and even earned a Pro Bowl appearance after throwing for 658 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions while rushing for another 137 yards and one touchdown.
Across 20 career games (nine starts), Huntley has completed 64.6 percent of his passes for 1,957 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. He’s rushed for 509 yards and three touchdowns.
For at least this week, though, it will be Thompson running the show for Miami. The seventh-round pick in 2022 has completed 57.1 percent of his passes for 614 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions across eight career games. He completed 8-of-14 passes for 80 yards in relief of Tagovailoa on Thursday night.
The Dolphins enter their Week 3 matchup at 1-1 after a comeback win against the Jacksonville Jaguars and loss to the Bills. After Sunday’s game against the Seahawks, the Dolphins play games against the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots before a Week 6 bye. Tagovailoa won’t be eligible to return until Week 8 at the earliest, when the Dolphins face off against the Arizona Cardinals.
