According to a White House spokesperson, President Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin at a U.S. base in Anchorage on Friday.
Trump is seeking to end Russia’s conflict in Ukraine.
CNN was the first to report the location of the meeting, which Russians praised for its historical importance: the United States bought the territory from Russia 158 years earlier.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the summit on Tuesday a “feeling-out meeting,” and said it was “not concession” to Putin. He said, “We will know very quickly whether or not this meeting has any chance for success.”
