Former president Donald Trump‘s son, Eric Trump, says that there is one thing Vice President Kamala Harris says which drives him “crazy.”

Appearing on The Megyn Kelly Show, Eric Trump spoke about the second assassination attempt in West Palm Beach, Florida, a week earlier.

“I’ve just seen what they’ve tried to do to my family the last ten years,” Trump said. “I’ve seen every single trick. They laughed at us first. Then they tried to take him down. Then they tried to impeach him and then they went after him. They literally did everything. The last thing left for them to do was try and kill him.”

Trump, who has appeared at his father’s side during his hush money trial in New York City and on the campaign trail, said VP Harris needed to stop going after his father.

“It’s one of the things that drives me crazy when you see Kamala on the debate stage saying: ‘This man is a threat to democracy’,” he told Kelly. “There’s only one person that they’re going after and they’re going after him viciously.”

Trump said there had been a concerted effort to take the former president down, including “weaponizing” the judicial system, in reference to the various criminal and civil cases since he left office, as well as alleging efforts to take him off the ballot in certain states.

“Now twice in five weeks, as we approach 50 days away from election day, they tried to kill him. They will stop at nothing,” he said.

Kelly interviewed Trump, 40, a day after 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh allegedly tried to assassinate his father while he played golf on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024.

Trump said a friend at the local sheriff’s department called him to say that shots had been heard on the course and he jumped in the car to head down I-95, where the suspect was caught.

“I actually took a personal video of the guy being arrested,” he explained. “I was driving south, and the police chase was heading north.”

The incident in West Palm Beach was the second attempt on the Republican candidate’s life in just a few weeks, with the other coming in Butler, Pennsylvania in mid-July.

“My six- and four-year-olds were sitting on my lap watching as their grandfather had blood drip down his face,” Trump said of the moment a bullet grazed the GOP candidate’s ear at the Butler rally.

Trump commended the Secret Service agents around his father, saying he was friends with many of them and calling them “fine people” who would take a bullet for the former president.

He did question what was going on more widely within the security services, calling for a change in tactics.

Addressing what it would have meant if either of these attempts had been successful, Trump said he “couldn’t even fathom what that would mean for our country”, adding it could have caused a civil war and make the U.S. a laughingstock.

After calling for a change in rhetoric from the Harris campaign, Trump went on to call Democrats “the biggest crooks” and “the biggest liars”, before repeating claims of cheating in the election.

Newsweek reached out to the White House and the Harris campaign for comment via email Monday afternoon.
