Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

The sex trafficking, assault, and racketeering allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs have included a wide variety of disturbing charges.

Perhaps the most upsetting details have been about what the music producer allegedly called “freak offs.” The indictment against Combs defined these as “sex performances … he often electronically recorded … [that] sometimes lasted for days at a time, involved multiple commercial sex workers, and often involved a variety of narcotics such as ketamine, ecstasy, and GHB, which Combs distributed to the victim to keep them obedient and compliant.”

Not many celebrities have spoken out since the rapper’s arrest. Since these allegations have been revealed, however, stars’ previous comments about the rapper are being closely examined by social media users.

Here are what celebrities have said about their experiences at parties hosted by Diddy.

Ashton Kutcher: “A lot I can’t tell.”

On a 2019 episode of Hot Ones, Ashton Kutcher was asked if he had any “Diddy party stories” to share, but he quickly maneuvered away from the topic. “I’ve got a lot I can’t tell,” the actor and entrepreneur, 46, said. He appeared to rack his brains for an appropriate story, then said, “Can’t tell that one either. I’m actually cycling through them…” Kutcher then pivoted to talking about how he became friends with Diddy, who allegedly insisted that Kutcher never put him on his show, Punk’d.

Damon Dash: “If something is against my moral fabric then I’m moving on.”

Music executive Damon “Dame” Dash spoke on Instagram Live on Sunday, September 22, after photos surfaced of him partying with Diddy, Jennifer Lopez, Jay-Z, and his then-girlfriend Aaliyah at a party in the Hamptons.

“I didn’t go to those parties,” Dash, 53, said. “I went to one in the Hamptons about 20 years ago with Aaliyah and that’s about it. But a lot of people were at those, you know what I mean?” Dash went on to call the news about Diddy “sad,” “crazy,” and “shocking.” The events of these parties were “a mystery to me, just like they were a mystery to everyone else.”

Ray J: “I’ve never been in rooms that people are talking about.”

“Sexy Can I” singer Ray J is a known mentee of Diddy’s, and although they’ve certainly partied together, the singer insisted to journalist Chris Cuomo he had no knowledge of his mentor’s more NSFW activities. “I’ve never been in rooms that people are talking about, and I never knew they existed.”

50 Cent: “It’s uncomfortable.”

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson told The Hollywood Reporter that he had “been very vocal about not going to Puffy parties” over the years because there was “an uncomfortable energy connected to it.”

Jackson is producing a documentary about the allegations against Combs.

Usher: “I don’t know if I could […] understand […] what I was looking at.”

NO DIDDY – this interview clip from 2016 of Usher at the Howard Stern show hits a little different given the events that have unfolded.

During a 2016 Howard Stern interview, R+B singer Usher described being sent to spend the summer with Combs, then known as Puff Daddy, in New York City. According to the 45-year-old “Yeah” singer, “There were very curious things taking place” during the parties at what they called “Puffy Flavor Camp.”

When co-host Robin Quivers tried to say that no women made moves on the artist, who was 14 at the time, he shook his head. “I didn’t say that,” he said, while Stern and Quivers laughed. Usher said that Diddy’s guests, who included Biggie Smalls, Lil’ Kim, and more, would stay up till 3am, but that he would often stay up even later. Stern then asked if Usher, who is a father of four, would ever send his kids to “Puffy Camp,” and Usher quickly responded: “Hell no.”
