The New York Giants are starting to show some fight, as the team pulled off an upset win against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. After the victory, the team was shown celebrating on social media, which was shut down immediately by head coach Brian Daboll.

Though celebrating wins in the NFL is common, Daboll knows all too well that celebrating in this manner right now is a bit premature. The Giants are 2-3 on the season and still have plenty of football left to play.
Only five weeks have passed so far, and the Giants will need to string together some wins if they are to compete with the rest of the NFC. Sadly, they will have to do so without their most important defensive player.
Star pass rusher Kaybon Thibodeaux is now considered “week-to-week” after undergoing wrist surgery.
Daboll was very intentional in his response to reporters asking about Thibodeaux’s playing status. Though Daboll did indicate that Thibodeaux played through the injury he sustained on Sunday, he will now be out for what could be multiple weeks.

Thibodeaux is coming off a fantastic 2023 season, which saw him secure 11.5 sacks, 50 total tackles, and three forced fumbles. He has emerged as one of the premiere pass rushers in the game.
Through five games in 2024, Thibodeaux has secured 12 total tackles and three sacks. The hope is he will be able to recover sooner rather than later, but it would be believed that Daboll would be cautious with his star pass rusher.
With Thibodeaux sidelined for a presumed few weeks, the Giants will lean more heavily on Brian Burns and Dexter Lawrence II.
Burns was the biggest free agent acquisition the Giants landed in the offseason, as the star defender was traded to the team from the Carolina Panthers. Burns had 20.5 sacks in the last two seasons before being traded to the Giants.
Burns has amassed 15 tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble through five games in 2024. With Thibodeaux out, Burns will be given far more chances to chase down quarterbacks.

Lawrence is having a career year already, securing six sacks and 16 tackles through five games. Lawrence was able to notch three sacks against the Seahawks on Sunday.
Despite the Giants being 2-3 on the season, the team’s defense is strong. Losing Thibodeaux is going to impact the team’s pass rush, but there are plenty of stars who can step up and provide some much-needed pass rush.
