A new kitchen nightmare just dropped.
A video posted to TikTok by Erica Nicole (@ericanic0le) showed the moment her husband interpreted the directions on a brownie box mix a bit too literally—and the clip went viral. Since the video was posted, it has received over 750,000 views and over 48,000 likes.
“My husband decided to make us brownies tonight. I look over and see this man mixing the batter with his hands,” Nicole wrote alongside the video. “I asked him what he was doing and he said the box said to ‘hand stir.’ Y’all, I cannot breathe. My husband is broken.”

The video shows Nicole’s husband laughing as he rinses his gloved hands of the brownie mix. The couple’s dog even seemed to be in on the mishap, as the camera panned to her excitedly.
“She actually hates when we get loud/have fun, so she always starts yelling at us,” Nicole wrote in comments about their dog, referring to her barks.
Nicole also clarified in the comments that the mix-up was entirely “innocent”—her husband truly had no idea what he was doing wrong.
While it sounds hard to believe at first, some in the comments ran the video past men in their lives, confirming others’ ignorance too. “I showed my boyfriend this expecting him to laugh and he said, ‘What’s he doing wrong?’ Help,” @macncheez wrote.
Others shared their own kitchen horror stories involving their husbands and male relatives.
“Omg my sisters bf did this on Thanksgiving a couple years ago,” @melissajean1223 wrote. “My fiancé and I walked in on it and could not breathe.”
“When we first got married, I asked my husband to hand wash a pan,” @user3278203183464 wrote. “He looked at me confused but I didn’t think too much of it. When I found him, he was using his literal hand to wash the pan with soap.”
“My husband and I made cupcakes from scratch once. It called for egg whites. I looked in the bowl and my husband had literally put the eggshells. THE EGG SHELLS,” @ticklemeteets said.
Amid the plethora of empathizing comments, Nicole offered yet another detail to the story that sent it even further into the canon of male kitchen horror stories.
“It’s SUCH a boy thing to do,” she wrote. “We also didn’t have a stick of butter, and he goes, ‘Okay I’ll just skip that.’ I was like, Um, no, that’s not how baking works.
“He used olive oil instead.”
