Kamala Harris postponed her interview on the podcast “Call Her Daddy” due to a hurricane emergency, according to host Alex Cooper, who shared the story in a post on TikTok.

Following the interview’s release on October 6, in which she discussed abortion rights, housing, taxes, and more, Harris received some criticism online for taking part as states were trying to recover from Hurricane Helene.

In a TikTok video posted on Cooper’s account the next day, she appeared to share footage from an earlier plan to interview the vice president, but said it had been postponed because there was “the hurricane happening on the East coast and she may need to fly there to go handle things,” and they later rescheduled.

In a second video detailing her interview with Harris, Cooper explained that the interview was postponed another five hours on the day as Harris had “national matters to attend to.”

Newsweek reached out to a spokesperson for Harris for comment via email.

Following Cooper’s videos, many users on social media came to Harris’ defense, saying the video vindicated the presidential candidate after the backlash.

Since the hurricane, President Joe Biden and Harris have visited several states affected to oversee the damage and provision of federal aid.

In the days following Hurricane Helene, Harris traveled to Georgia and North Carolina to meet with residents and local officials to discuss actions being taken in emergency response.

Harris has also been making provisions ahead of Hurricane Milton, which is expected to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday.

On October 7, she posted on X, “I have been briefed on Hurricane Milton’s expected impact and our Administration’s work to support Florida ahead of the storm’s landfall. Today, @POTUS approved an emergency declaration for the state to provide federal support for lifesaving and emergency protective measures.”

Cooper’s podcast, the fourth most listened to in the U.S., according to Edison Research, was one of a series of interviews Harris is taking part in in the run-up to the election. She has also appeared on 60 Minutes, where she faced a more challenging line of questioning from CBS correspondent Bill Whitaker.

Donald Trump meanwhile is focusing on holding rallies. He recently invited Elon Musk to appear with him in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was speaking following an assassination attempt during his last event in the town.
