Kevin Owens Calls Out WWE, Fuels AEW Contract Rumors

Modern professional wrestling has seen storytelling expand in new ways, utilizing social media to expand interest in various rivalries.

This was most evident in the feud between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre, which went on to be one of the best stories of the year, so far.

Now, it looks like Kevin Owens is taking the same route in his battle against WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

The story has been building for a while, with Owens having multiple opportunities to attack or fight dirty and choosing to remain honorable.

However, the last straw came with Bad Blood 2024 when Rhodes teamed with Roman Reigns to fight Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu of The Bloodline. Owens went on to attack his former ally after the premium live event, which was captured on fan video.

Since then, Owens has attempted to explain himself and even attack Rhodes again, but he was thwarted by tag team partner Randy Orton.

Now, Owens has taken to social media to explain his grievances with Rhodes and WWE as a whole.

“Ever since Bad Blood there’s been a lot of questions about why I did what I did to Cody,” Owens said on X. “There has been a lot of judgments too-a lot of people judging me for what I did. And as much as I’d love to explain myself, give my side of the story, and speak my mind, WWE has not allowed me to do that.”

“They have done the opposite, actually. They’ve tried to shut me up, it seems, because they wouldn’t let me come to SmackDown. They told me to stay home last Friday, even though I belong there. And when I showed up anyway, they cut my mic and did everything they could for me not to be able to talk.”

Owens went on to explain about a video he sent to WWE to show at Raw. However, it wasn’t aired and Owens noted they had “plenty of time for Cody.” He gave WWE until Friday to air his video, or else he’ll air it himself on social media.

The video has already been viewed over one million times since he posted it on Oct. 15, and has prompted a huge responses from fans, with some even suggesting he could be heading to All Elite Wrestling.

While Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported about a month ago that Owens had been approached for a new contract with WWE, he also noted that AEW would make a huge offer for the superstar should he become available.

This is still entirely possible since Owens didn’t have an update on his contract in August. However, wrestling insider WrestleVotes revealed that he is closer to signing a deal with WWE.

“Didn’t get a definite one way or the other, didn’t get an absolutely the deal’s been signed, but did get a really positive response that it’s very close, if not completed with a handshake,” WrestleVotes said. “So, I’d imagine that he’s around for the long term.”

With as big as this story is getting, this seems like either a huge step for Owens or the last hurrah of his time with WWE. Either way, there’s no doubt that he’ll bring
