Letitia J. James, New York’s Attorney General, was indicted by a federal grand jury of Virginia on charges of bank fraud.
Fox News confirmed that a grand jury met Thursday in Eastern District of Virginia to consider the charges.
The Justice Department began an investigation of James earlier this year for alleged mortgage fraud. James won a case against Donald Trump, the Trump Organization and President Donald Trump last year over accusations of bad business practices.
Bill Pulte, the Federal Housing Finance Director, claimed in a letter that James may have committed mortgage fraud through false or misleading statements made on property records. For example, her loan application stated that her Virginia property was her primary residence. A building record said that her Brooklyn multifamily property had five residences, not four. And a mortgage application falsely stated that James was her dad’s wife.
James has been under investigation by the Trump administration for several months.
James has been under investigation by the Trump administration for several months now over mortgage fraud allegations, which she denies. James’ office called the allegations “intimidation from Trump’s side” when they first emerged.
