Lilly Ledbetter, a pioneering advocate for pay equality, passed away at the age of 86.
Ledbetter’s fight for fair wages was made famous after she discovered she had been paid significantly less than her male counterparts during her years at Goodyear Tire & Rubber.
Her lawsuit led to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, the first bill signed into law by President Barack Obama, which extended the time frame for workers to file pay discrimination claims.
