The Detroit Lions are currently 1-1 and dropped an important matchup on Sunday. The team lost 20-16 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s still early in the season, and one loss does not dictate how the Lions will fair once the season winds down.

Despite only losing once, the loss caused a ripple effect and safety issues for head coach Dan Campbell. Campbell revealed that he and his wife Holly are selling their home due to safety concerns following the Lions’ loss.
Apparently, Campbell’s house address was acquired online, resulting in “fake” contractors showing up for repairs as some sort of prank. This led to the Campbells filing police reports with the Bloomfield Township police.

The Bloomfield Township Police Department released a statement on the matter.
“The Bloomfield Township Police Department is committed to the safety of all of our residents,” Bloomfield Township Police said in a statement. “Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. We hope that everyone, including fans, will respect the privacy of individuals and their families.”
The home was purchased for $3.5 million and was sold within 24 hours for $4.5 million. The buyers are reportedly “huge” Lions fans. Campbell commented on the move and the reason behind the safety concerns he felt.
“The neighborhood, everything,” Campbell told Crain’s Detroit Business. “There’s plenty of space, it’s on 2 acres, and the home is beautiful. It’s just that people figured out where we lived when we lost.”
The Lions became one of the biggest surprises in 2023, securing a playoff berth, and nearly punching their ticket to the Super Bowl. They would fall to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game 34-31.
The result of the successful season led many to believe that the Lions are the next up to secure a Super Bowl win after decades of mediocrity. Despite success from one season, that does not mean teams will repeat that success. There is a high chance it could happen, but it’s not always that likely.

Campbell and the Lions are 1-1 and the team will likely go through some more losses this season. That does not mean they cannot make the playoffs again and perhaps even break through to the Super Bowl in 2024.
Regardless of that, fans should not take it upon themselves to harass any coach or player for a loss. Thankfully, Campbell and his family have found a new home already and have moved in. The hope now is the new address won’t find its way online.
