A husband in Maine has left social media viewers in stitches after sharing some “romantic texts” he’s received from his wife lately.

Chip Leighton, 52, took to Instagram to list the messages, which included “Could you whisk that salad dressing any louder?” and “Man, you really squished down this patio cushion.”

Other messages had practical reminders, such as “Close garage door” and “Do we have yogurt?”

Leighton, who has been happily married to Lisa for 25 years, told Newsweek that spouses get comfortable and direct in their communications.

He said: “It’s a lot of either very practical messages—’Send me the code’ or ‘Did u feed the cat?’—or some not-so-subtle feedback—’I’ve never heard anyone eat popcorn as loudly as you just did.'”

Known for sharing humorous family content on his Instagram account (@the_leighton_show), the dad of two reflected on how humor is key in a long-lasting marriage. He also shared some advice he recently heard at a wedding.

“The officiant gave some great advice to the bride and groom: ‘Don’t let the little things become big things.’ I think if you can laugh at the little things, it defuses them and takes away their importance. It’s tough to be mad about something you’re laughing about,” he told Newsweek.

Leighton’s reel (captioned “Who said romance is dead?”) struck a chord with other social media users who are in long-term relationships. One user shared what their significant other had recently texted them: “Come inside after you’re done sneezing.”

Others understood how life can look a little different when you’ve been married for decades. “I just texted my husband a link to a toilet I think we should buy,” another user commented.

Leighton, author of What Time Is Noon? Hilarious Texts, Ridiculous Feedback, and Not-So-Subtle Advice From Teenagers,” which comes out this fall, said his video was a realistic portrayal of a long marriage.

“You can see in the comments so many people saying it looks like I hacked their phone. I guess a remarkably high number of texts have to do with what’s for dinner tonight, and there are more than a few about a spouse’s sneezing volume,” he told Newsweek.

Among the romantic texts, Lisa also sent this fan favorite: “We’re going to spend whatever it takes to get Taylor Swift tickets.”

Many Instagram users were eager to know if the content creator had managed to clinch those elusive tickets. Leighton confirmed that he did: “That’s why I need to sell some books,” he joked.

“My wife and daughter went and said it was absolutely incredible,” he added.
