“We are aware of the recent detainment of Miami Dolphins player Tyreek Hill by Miami-Dade Police Department officers,” said Stephanie V. Daniels in a post on the Miami-Dade Police Department’s social media. “I have requested an immediate review of all details surrounding the incident, and we are also reviewing available body camera footage. We will provide updates as further information becomes available.”
Social media exploded with footage of the Dolphins star receiver being handcuffed a block from Hard Rock Stadium just hours before Miami opened the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hill was seen face down on the ground as officers put his hands behind his back.
Several teammates witnessed the incident and stopped to offer their support. After Hill was briefly detained, he was released and arrived at the stadium.

The 30-year-old had several other run-ins with the law in 2014, 2019 and 2023. He pleaded guilty to domestic assault involving his pregnant girlfriend and was investigated by Kansas City police for an alleged battery incident involving his son. He didn’t face any discipline for the incident with his son.
Hill is expected to play today. His absence from the game would’ve been a major setback for the Dolphins.
If the Dolphins were short their star receiver for the season opener, Miami’s plans to start the year in the win column would likely have been thwarted.
Drew Rosenhaus, Hill’s agent, spoke to Mike Cugno of CBS regarding the incident.
“Still looking for answers,” Rosenhaus said. “Tyreek was detained. The police inexplicably put him in handcuffs relative to a moving traffic violation entering the stadium of all things on game day. A surreal situation. I’m extremely upset about it. Thank God Tyreek’s OK. We’ll be investigating the police conduct afterwards, not making any allegations right now. We’ll leave that to Tyreek’s legal team. It was a very traumatic situation. We pulled it together. He is going to play today.”
Hill is one of the top receivers in the league. He recorded 119 catches for 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is entering his third season with the Dolphins.
Hill and his counterpart Jaylen Waddle have transformed the Miami offense.
The receiver duo is slated to be one of the best in the league this season as the Dolphins chase a playoff spot.
In 2023, Miami faced the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card round, but are looking for redemption this year.
