In Game 1 of the 1966 World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers scored one run in the first inning, and another in the second, before ultimately losing 5-2 to the Baltimore Orioles. The Dodgers never scored another run in the series, losing to the Orioles in a four-game sweep.
For 58 years, the Orioles’ 32 consecutive scoreless innings stood as a postseason record. The record, coincidentally, is now shared by Baltimore and Los Angeles, after the Dodgers took an identical 32-inning streak into Game 2 of the NLCS against the New York Mets on Monday.
Eight pitches into the game, the Orioles’ share of history was safe. Francisco Lindor led off the game with a home run against Dodgers pitcher Ryan Brasier, ending a terrific bat with a left-handed homer over the short fence in right field at Dodger Stadium.
It was the sixth leadoff home run of Lindor’s career, and the first by a Mets player since Curtis Granderson.
