NASCAR Insider Puts Denny Hamlin Playoff Worries to Bed: ‘That Couldn’t Be Further from the Truth’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Veteran driver Denny Hamlin is feeling the pressure at this point in the Playoffs. The Joe Gibbs Racing stalwart, behind the wheel of the No. 11 Toyota, has been scrutinized despite an impressive season. Industry insider and former champion Dale Jarrett has recently dispelled any apprehensions regarding Hamlin’s playoff performance, confirming that claims of potential desperation are unfounded.

Born in Tampa, Florida, and hailing from Chesterfield, Virginia, the seasoned driver continues to wield significant influence in NASCAR circles. His track record this season includes victories at Bristol, Richmond, and Dover, along with seven top-five finishes and eight top-ten. Nevertheless, as the race calendar unfolded, rising stars like Christopher Bell and Kyle Larson began casting longer shadows.

Navigating through the tumultuous Round of 16 and the unpredictable Round of 8, Hamlin sits in championship contention. Nonetheless, whispers of 2024 being his last feasible opportunity for a Cup win have emerged. It is here that Dale Jarrett steps in, countering such speculation.

“Certainly, a lot of people would look at it that maybe Denny might be in a desperation mode. I will assure you, he’s not that,” he told NBC Sports.

The pressured environment of the playoffs undeniably heightens the scrutiny on these drivers, but Hamlin is still under control, the former driver argues.

“Denny is not sitting there thinking if I don’t get this done this year, then there’s not going to be another chance. My career is not going to be complete. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

“Denny is right there too. He certainly is not going to drive until he is 51 like I did, but he does have a couple of more good years around him and can get it done.”

Hamlin holds the record for the most wins in the Cup Series yet still without that elusive championship.

“And, you know, unfortunately there’s been a lot of great, great race drivers that have come through the ranks and never got that moment that they could win a championship. They’ve done everything else, and Denny is this perfect example. Winning big races.

“Jeff Burton is on this call. He won big, big races. Came close to winning a championship, but it just didn’t happen.”

The significance of securing a championship title would inevitably transform Hamlin’s legacy. Currently, with 59 career NASCAR Cup Series wins, he is firmly entrenched among NASCAR’s elite. Yet, it is the championship victory that stands as the crowning achievement many seek. For now, speculation about Hamlin’s urgency to transcend to champion status remains just that: speculation.
