Viewers quickly defended a dog after his owner played a little prank where his reaction ripped their hearts out.
In an August 7 TikTok video by user @dougiesdashcam, an owner and her dachshund were on a walk. Off-leash, the dog started to roam around and enjoy his time in the sunshine. The owner took the opportunity to hide behind a tree from her “clingy sausage dog” as an innocent joke. It was a test to see her dog’s reaction and what he would do. But his response made her and every viewer break.
Panic immediately ran through the small dog when he couldn’t find his owner. He stood still, scanning the area around him. His head whipped side to side. When she was nowhere to be found, he turned around and started trotting in the opposite direction hoping he would see her there. But nothing.
He lifted his tiny paw as if it would point him in the right direction, which some viewers called the “thinking paw.” He turned back around to retrace his steps before the owner finally gave in.
She came out from behind the tree and called after him. Sprinting as fast as his little legs would go, he went full steam ahead toward his human and relief quickly melted over him.
The owner mentioned in the caption that she “felt so bad.” It was an immediate regret seeing her fur baby in distress.

What Do the Comments Say?
The TikTok video amassed over 1.9 million views, 226,200 likes and 973 comments as of Friday. Viewers chuckled at the dog’s reaction at first, but then quickly requested that the owner never pull a prank like this again.
“Panic mode activated,” said one TikToker, while another added: “That’s when you know he is a keeper, Blasting running toward you like that.”
Someone demanded: “Apologize to him now!!!”
A viewer pointed out: “He’ll never let you out his sight now.” And that couldn’t have been more true.
In a separate video posted after this one, she showed how her dachshund follows her around the house. He was right there next to her feet with every step she took. His observant eyes looking up at her proved he wouldn’t let her out of sight.
