Picture this nightmare: you’re lying in bed, and you suddenly hear a strange and eerie voice coming through the baby monitor.
This became a reality for two parents after having just put their daughter, Sadie, to bed.
Mom Emily Haswell shared the clip on TikTok that shows her husband with a terrified look on his face as their two-and-a-half-year-old says: “I can hear you, Dada” through the baby monitor.

Mom Emily Haswell documented her husband’s real-time reaction to hearing a quiet voice that suddenly came from their baby monitor.

Haswell, who’s known as @myemtv on the platform, explained that it wasn’t a technical glitch; rather a normal night in their house.
“My husband or I will put our two-and-a-half-year-old down for bed and she will yell random things to get our attention. Sometimes, she yells ‘I poooooooped’. She has not pooped, she just wants us to come hang out with her,” Haswell told Newsweek.
She and her husband were lying in bed silently, and Haswell explained that her daughter couldn’t actually hear anything. But on this particular night, Sadie upped the ante and “decided to go full horror movie,” Haswell said.
“I think she could hear the little devil on her shoulder saying ‘do one last thing today to age your parents’,” the 34-year-old joked.
The couple usually wait to see if their daughter will settle on her own, but if she doesn’t, one of them will initiate “bedtime phase two” which involves singing, storytelling and eventually resorting to begging Sadie to go to sleep.
The clip has received over 420,000 views since it was posted on June 17, with other parents sharing their experiences of a voice coming from their baby monitors.
“Mine used to growl in a low, demonic voice while saying ‘mama daddy, mama daddy’ and I hated it so much,” one TikTok user commented.
“She can smell your fear,” another wrote, while @pnwfembot agreed with Haswell and said: “This is horror movie quality.”
Referring to her husband’s alarmed expression, Haswell reassured us at Newsweek that he was OK, adding that nothing Sadie says surprises her parents anymore: “She’s wild and smart, and she has been talking for a long time. People used to be shocked when she was one and full sentences were coming out of her little mouth.”
As Haswell put it, the clip either resonated with people or served as “birth control.”
