Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

Sebastian Stan is shocking fans with his portrayal of a young Donald Trump in the upcoming film The Apprentice.

The movie, which is set to hit theaters on October 11, offers a glimpse into Trump’s early career, with Stan, 42, taking the role as the young businessman. In a newly released clip by Briarwood Entertainment on Tuesday, September 3, the young Trump is shown navigating a high-stakes conversation with a reporter, with Jeremy Strong playing Roy Cohn, Trump’s influential advisor.

Fans loved this almost unrecognizable look at the actor, with many taking to the comments to voice their opinions of the portrayal. “Oh my god!! They nailed it!! Both Sebastian and Jeremy!!” said one fan. “Polish up the Oscar,” another noted, presumably of Stan’s performance. A third fan declared, “I stan me some Stan!!! This is going to be an epic watch!”

The film delves into the former president’s rise in the 1970s. It also takes a look at his relationship with Cohn, who is depicted as an important figure in shaping Trump’s ambitions and aggressive strategies. “A young Donald Trump, eager to make his name as a hungry scion of a wealthy family, comes under the spell of Roy Cohn,” the synopsis explains.

While Trump has yet to publicly address the film, his campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung told The Hill after its premiere in May, “We are preparing to file a lawsuit to counter the false claims presented by these so-called filmmakers. This film is nothing but sensationalized fiction based on debunked lies. Like the illegitimate Biden Trials, it represents a form of election interference by Hollywood elites who fear President Trump’s return to the White House.” Cheung further criticized the movie, dismissing it as “malicious defamation” that does not deserve any recognition.

The movie, which is directed by Ali Abbasi, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and received an extended eight-minute standing ovation.
