Airlines and airports expect to see more passengers this year, as Spring Break is in full swing. This season covers the majority of March and April.

TSA anticipates a 5% increase in the number of flyers compared to last year. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is the second busiest airport in the United States. That means that 4.8 million passengers will be flying through the airport over the next few weeks.

United Airlines claims that 2025’s Spring Break will be a record-breaker. While U.S. Airlines are warning of a slowing in demand due to recent plane crashes, government travel, and economic uncertainty, United Airlines is predicting booming spring break numbers. United Airlines expects to fly over 24 million passengers before the end of April. This week is its busiest.

According to CBS News, the Porter family is traveling from Phoenix to Florida during spring break. Jenna Porter, her kids, and their usual road trip takes them to California. This year, however, they are flying to Panama City.

“We wanted to go somewhere new, and our children all wanted to visit a beach resort. Porter said that it was “the next best thing”.

Spring Break Expected Costs

AAA reports that domestic airfares are on average 7% higher than last year.

Aixa Diaz said that although AAA members are paying more for their travel this year, it doesn’t stop them from doing so.

AAA reports that hotel stays have also increased by 8% this year.

Diaz explained that families want to get together during spring break because kids and college students are already off.

Gas is 30 cents cheaper per gallon than it was during spring break 2024. This is great news for travellers like Kristen Jankowski. She flew from Atlanta to Miami to begin a road trip with her family.

She said, “We’ll spend a day there and then get on a ship and continue from there.”

Savings during Spring Break

Emily Kaufman, also known as “The travel mom”, advises people to remain flexible. Bundling your airfare, hotel and rental car can save you money on last-minute getaways. You can save $400 by booking four nights in Hawaii via Los Angeles.

Kaufman discovered that booking the hotel and airfare separately, a trip to Honolulu from LAX cost $2200. Expedia offered a $1,806 package for the same dates, April 5-9.

The same itinerary from Charlotte, North Carolina to Nassau, Bahamas would cost $2 858. Booking.com offered the same itinerary at $2,472 for a bundle.

Kaufman explained that there are many great vacation spots. It’s all a matter of supply and demand. You might want to consider a dupe destination. Instead of going to a popular destination, you could look at another place that offers similar experiences.

Kaufman recommends staying at all-inclusive hotels or in hotels that include breakfast as a way of reducing the cost of your trip.

Last-minute deals

CBS News has found some great last-minute offers from Booking.com.

All vacation packages listed include roundtrip airfares, accommodations in 3+ stars hotels, rental cars of standard size, and all taxes/fees. The discounts listed may be subject to change and/or limited to certain dates.

This year, top getaway destinations include cities in Florida and Hawaii. The top 10 international destinations are dominated by Europe, but United has also reported a rise in bookings for ski resorts.
