The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently 2-0 and are hoping to remain undefeated when they take on the Las Vegas Chargers on Sunday. So far, the Steelers have looked good with Justin Fields filling in as the starting quarterback.
More news: Steelers News: Mike Tomlin Reveals Expected Starting QB For Week 3
Back before the regular season began, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin named Russell Wilson as the team’s starting quarterback. The issue is Wilson has been dealing with a calf injury since training camp that has held him out of action.
As it stands right now, Wilson is set to miss Week 3 as well.

Meanwhile, WR Roman Wilson (ankle) is off the injury report and set to make his NFL debut.

NFL insider Tom Peliessero revealed that Wilson is still dealing with the calf issue that has plagued him for months now. This will lead to the Steelers moving forward again with Fields.
In Wilson’s stead, Fields has played well enough to lead the team to two wins. He has produced 273 yards and one touchdown in two games, which aren’t numbers that are highly impressive. However, wins are what matter the most here.

Fields is a winner. Period. That is the biggest thing that should matter to fans and pundits over eye-popping stat lines. With Fields’ ability to win games, should this lead to his being named starter? He has clearly played well enough.
What if Fields leads the Steelers to their third win this season over a quality opponent like the Chargers?
The Chargers are also 2-0 and enter Sunday as one of the best teams in the NFL. In fact, a lot of publications have them in the top 10 power rankings-wise.
Both the Chargers offense and defense are playing at a high level, though L.A. might be without quarterback Justin Herbert this Sunday. Herbert revealed he is dealing with a high ankle sprain, which could keep him from suiting up.
Even if the Chargers sit Herbert, their defense is still leading the league in many categories. The Steelers and Fields will have their work cut out for them.
But again, what if Fields puts together a solid enough performance that leads to the Steelers remaining undefeated? Will that be enough for Tomlin to reverse course and roll with Fields as the starter?
Fields came over via a trade with the Chicago Bears, which shocked the league considering the Steelers had just signed Wilson. Still, Steelers general manager Omar Khan turned one of the worst quarterback corps in the NFL to one of the best.
Many believed that Fields was always the insurance in case Wilson got hurt or did not play well enough. So far, the former is happening, and Fields has continued to win. Another win this Sunday is sure to cause Tomlin to think hard about whether or not he wants to move away from Fields when Wilson is fully healed.
