Smith Report on Trump Investigations 00.37

A source familiar with this matter said that Attorney General Merrick Gault has sent to Congress a portion from the former special counsel Jack Smith’s final report about his investigations of President-elect Donald Trump, after a court ordered blocking its release expired on Tuesday at midnight.

After days of legal battles over whether the report — or parts of it — should have been made public, it was finally sent to Congress. U.S. district judge Aileen Cannon refused on Monday to grant a request by Walt Nauta and Carlos de Oliveira to prevent the publication of volume one Smith’s final Report.

This section focuses on Trump’s alleged attempts to undermine the transfer of power following the 2020 elections. Volume two focuses on allegations that the president-elect illegally held classified documents after his first term ended in 2021, and obstructed Justice Department’s investigations.

Public access is expected for the section on the president-elect’s alleged attempts to remain in power in 2020 after losing the election to President Biden.

The story is developing and will be updated.
