UPDATE:
Tim Walz won’t run for re-election.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz ended his reelection campaign amid increasing pressure due to a fraud scandal which has plagued his administration over the past few weeks.
This move comes just days after several Republican state legislators asked Walz to resign, citing reports by a U.S. attorney that at least half the $18 billion paid out through Minnesota’s fourteen Medicaid waiver programs since 2018 could be fraudulent. They claimed Walz did nothing to address the “crisis.”
Walz said that he was leaving the race because of the increasing pressure.
Walz’s chances of winning the next election are causing concern among a growing number Democrats.
Nearly a dozen people told the Minnesota Star Tribune that he should not seek reelection.
The Minnesota Star Tribune reports that a growing number of Walz’s elected officials are also concerned about his chances of winning the gubernatorial race.
Nearly 12 Democrats have told the newspaper that Walz shouldn’t run for re-election. Some even compare his bid for a third-term to Joe Biden’s failed 2024 campaign.
Jen McEwan, a state senator, admitted that there was always some sort of gossip or rumblings. She claimed, however, that she wasn’t part of the group who is actively talking about this.
Walz’s ouster is being pushed amid fallout from a federal probe that found dozens of Minnesotans, primarily Somali refugees, had defrauded federal authorities of potentially billions of dollars.
Even Democrats do not think Walz should be running!
