Tom Brady’s World Series Pick Will Shock Some of His Fans

Tom Brady never has to buy another beer in the city of Boston after leading the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl victories.

Until the World Series is over at least, he might want to wait to enjoy a night out in Beantown.

More News: How To Watch Every Dodgers-Yankees World Series Game

In an interview with MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM on Tuesday, Brady was asked to pick a winner of the upcoming World Series between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers. What he said was almost tailor-made to leave Boston Red Sox fans aghast.

“I’m rooting for a seven-game series,” Brady said. “I don’t know if I’m rooting for anyone, but it’s pretty great when the Yankees win it. But what a great series: Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, you’ve got all the stars. This is one I think a lot of people are going to be watching. I can’t wait to watch.”

Brady has ramped up his media profile significantly since embarking on a transition from the field to the Fox NFL broadcast booth. Anyone who isn’t accustomed to hearing Brady’s thoughts on all things football and beyond in sports might as well get ready.

Brady did his best to build up a thick skin by agreeing to be roasted in a Netflix special earlier this year, but this interview might bring on a new degree of roasting.

To Red Sox fans, the idea of the Yankees winning the World Series is anathema. The Red Sox stole bragging rights from their hated rivals by claiming the 2004 American League Championship series en route to a run of four World Series appearances, and four World Series victories, from 2004-18.

The Yankees made the World Series just once in that span. From 1996-2003, they reached the World Series six times in nine years, winning four. They would like nothing to reclaim the balance of power in one of baseball’s most storied rivalries by winning a record 28th championship.

Certainly, Brady isn’t oblivious to this history. And he’s entitled to his own opinion. He already spurned Boston once by signing a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2000 following a 20-year run with the Patriots. The next year, he won his seventh Super Bowl ring with his new team.

Perhaps Brady, a Northern California native, simply has a harder time rooting for the Dodgers than the Yankees.
