Tori Spelling has said that she was once grounded for “making out” with the family chef.
During Friday’s episode of her MisSpelling podcast, the Beverly Hills, 90210 actress shared how her family dynamic was different from her friends’ growing up. Newsweek reached out to Spelling via email for additional comment.
“I would go to my friends’ houses and hear the way that their families talked, and I was just shocked. And at first I’d be like, ‘Oh, their families sound like they hate each other, I don’t understand,’ and then I realized, they were so close. Those families were the closest, and I was just—I didn’t grow up that way,” Spelling said.
“I’m 51. I’ve never in my entire lifetime told my mom and my dad when he was alive to shut up or raise my voice. Never. It never occurred to me or to get mad,” Spelling continued.
“I think the most I ever did was huff and puff and probably walk out and slam my bedroom door when I was a teenager, you know? Like the time they caught me making out with the family chef. I think, when I was grounded that time, I went to my room and locked my door. And my nanny was like, ‘Don’t you dare lock this door!’ I’m like, ‘OK, sorry.'”

When it came to dating, the author said she “used to tell my mom everything.”
Spelling recalled the advice that her mother, Candy Spelling, would tell her, such as, “If you love them, let them go,” and “If they’re meant to be, they’ll come back.”
“She would always give me these lines that have stayed with me,” the Scary Movie 2 star said, noting that she has passed on those lines to her own children. “I’ll be like, ‘My mom said …’ but it does make sense.”
Spelling shares kids Liam, Stella, Hattie, Finn and Beau with former husband Dean McDermott. He is also dad to son Jack from his previous marriage to Mary Jo Eustace. She and McDermott were in the process of adopting daughter Lola at the time of their split, and he recently attended her high-school graduation.
Earlier this year, Spelling filed for divorce from McDermott, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their breakup. During a previous episode of MisSpelling, the California native said she had been thinking about divorce for “like 15 years.”
“We always say, ‘Hey, it made it 18 years. It shouldn’t have made it 18 years,” Spelling said. “And I think he would say the same thing if he and I had a real heart-to-heart. It would have been over a lot sooner.”
Spelling was a contestant on season 33 of Dancing With the Stars but was voted off the reality TV competition on the second episode. In a video shared to Instagram on September 26, McDermott praised her performances.
“Hey everybody, I had to come out of my self-imposed Instagram exile for this one. Tori Spelling—you did an amazing job. I’m so proud of you,” McDermott told his followers after her DWTS elimination.
“You put on two beautiful performances on Dancing With the Stars. I saw how hard you worked, and I know the injuries that you had that you worked through, and your dedication and your work ethic is amazing.”
