Washington President Trump signed a Friday executive order that prevents schools and colleges mandated to administer COVID-19 vaccines from receiving federal funds, even though there is no such requirement in any state.
This directive is only applicable to the COVID-19 vaccination. Some states exempt students from receiving other vaccines to prevent diseases such as measles mumps polio tetanus whooping cough tetanus.
The White House stated in a factsheet that COVID-19 vaccination mandates “threaten educational opportunities”.
The order requires the Education Department and Health and Human Services Departments to develop a plan for ending “coercive COVID-19 vaccination mandates” and to report on compliance in schools. The directive of Mr. Trump also applies to state education agencies, local education agencies and education service agencies.
During his campaign for 2024, Donald Trump promised that he would “not give a penny to any school with a mandate on a vaccination or a face mask.”
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a well-known vaccine skeptic who was chosen by Mr. Trump to head the Health and Human Services Department. Kennedy’s views on vaccinations were not a concern for the Senate when it confirmed him this week.
