Donald Trump attacked Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell verbally again on Monday, hinting at a possible lawsuit for “gross negligence.”
Trump has repeatedly attacked Powell this year over his decisions on the interest rates for the United States and has called to remove him from office. Courts and experts warn that Trump cannot remove Powell from office without sufficient cause. This typically means severe misconduct or neglect, and not policy differences and personal opinions.
The president suggested that the lawsuit was related to the rising cost of renovations at Federal Reserve buildings. He said that the chairman had allowed the cost to soar.
At a press conference, the president stated that he was considering suing Powell for his incompetence. “Because, if you think about it, these buildings aren’t exceptional. These are small structures. Powell is incompetent. “There’s nothing that you can do.”
Trump is unhappy with the costs of renovations to the Federal Reserve building.
Trump threatened to sue Powell earlier this year, but he didn’t provide any details. The president is fixated on the renovation costs of Federal Reserve buildings and accuses Powell of allowing them to balloon.
