A university student was forced to declare she was canceling her flight after what her dog did as she was packing to leave.
Sinead Hanley lives abroad, and was recently preparing to leave her family home when their dog made her feelings clear about the matter.
In a heartbreaking video to her TikTok account @sineadhanleyx on September 1, she showed her suitcase filled with items for the year ahead, including clothes and shoes. But, immediately, her dog climbs into her suitcase.
She spins, settles and lies down on top of Hanley’s clothes, making it impossible to close the suitcase, before staring up at her with loving eyes. “The night before I move country,” Hanley wrote on the video. In a caption, she added: “Brb [be right back] cancelling my flight.”
Other users agreed that was the only way forward, as the video racked up over 55,000 likes and close to 250,000 views in a matter of days, as one commenter wrote: “I fear you must cancel the flight.”
“This would send me over the edge,” another posted, as a third added: “You can’t leave the baby.”
“No I actually wouldn’t be able to leave,” another commented.
Hanley added in a reply to one commenter: “She breaks my heart.”
The student’s family dog isn’t the only pet who has tricks to try to keep their owner at home; one golden retriever recently went viral for stopping his owner from going to the store, by taking her shirt.
In a post shared to TikTok by user @mavandmel in March, she shows the golden with her clothing in his mouth, pleading: “You gotta give me my shirt back. We’ll be gone for like, 15 minutes tops.” But, naturally, he refuses, keeping it in his mouth and giving her the ultimate puppy-dog eyes.
The dog settles into the suitcase, breaking her owner’s heart. Sinead Hanley was preparing to move abroad, but her pup had other ideas.

While it can be heartbreaking to leave a family pet behind, studies show that the pets will remember you months or even years later, according to a Rover article.
Dogs associate positive feeling and experiences, such as treats or walks, with a person. And their strongest memory trigger is their sense of smell, which, even as a dog grows older and might begin to lose their hearing and sight, remains powerful.
