Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, a representative from the state of New York, is contemplating a run for Senate or president in 2028.
She invests a great deal of time and resources in building her online presence.
People familiar with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s operation say that her team is preparing her for a presidential or U.S. Senate run in 2028.
Ocasio-Cortez could have a major impact on the 2028 presidential race, or even the leadership of the Senate. Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer (74), a fellow New Yorker is up for reelection in the year 2028.
Schumer’s race against Ocasio Cortez would pit the Democratic Party’s most traditionalist candidate against its insurgent progressive star.
State of the play: Ocasio Cortez, also known as AOC, has been campaigning across the nation and in New York State, far from her Bronx district and Queens, while spending millions of dollars to increase her already impressive online presence.
She has also participated in Bernie Sanders “Fighting Oligarchy Tour” and held town halls.
She also hosted town halls in upstate New York during the summer.
Axios reports that Ocasio-Cortez also spent millions of dollars this year to increase her social media presence, and obtain a list with potential supporters and donors in order to boost her fundraising capacity at the grassroots level.
The outlet stated that although the 35-year old lawmaker had not made a decision about her future, her team wanted to present her with options.
Allies believe that she will run for the White House even if she does not think she can win the Democratic nomination. This would give the left-wing Democratic party a stake in this primary, similar to Sanders’ 2016 run.
